Vancouver Island Music Awards

Well, I’m pretty darn happy.
Between June 22-26, I spent my time on Vancouver Island attending the annual Vancouver Island Music Business Conference (VIMBC for short), which, in a nutshell, is an awesome conference for songwriters, musicians, singers and managers alike to network with some of the biggest North American chaps in the music business. It was an amazing week; I learnt a crapload, and met some amazing artists and made some really awesome connections. But, what had to be one of the most memorable moments of the VIMBC was the Vancouver Island Music Awards, which took place on June 23. The Vancouver Island Music Awards came out of retirement to celebrate it’s 7th anniversary this year and to honour some of the greatest emerging acts of Vancouver Island. There were 12 categories and around 4-10 artists nominated in each category. I was fortunate enough to be nominated for the Sure Copy Youth Artists of the Year Awards. Want to hear the coolest thing about it?…
I WON!!!
I was in complete shock and had no idea what to say for my acceptance speech. I think the words that came out of my mouth were “Thanks mom for giving birth to me.”I was in awe. It was an absolute honour to win an award and to be recognized by such a supportive music community. Couldn’t ask for anything else. You can check out an article by the Comox Valley Record on the awards show here and hear from a few other artists who took home a prize that night.
All in all, the end of June ended with a bang. I met some amazing people, made some connections, and got to bring home physical evidence that my musical endeavours are being formally recognized. Oh, and I am currently working on a European tour in the spring of 2012 with a few artists I met at the VIMBC. That’s kind of cool.
Til next time!
